Ronan Cahill

Professor Ronan Cahill is a Consultant General Surgeon with specialist expertise in colorectal surgery and Professor of Surgery at University College Dublin (UCD) and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. He graduated with honors in medicine (MB, BAO, BCh) from UCD in 1997, earned an MD through clinical research, and holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS). His career spans clinical and academic roles in Ireland, France, and the UK, including advanced research fellowships and leadership in surgical innovation.

Ronan Cahill’s research focuses on Surgical Innovation and New Technologies, with active collaborations in basic science, clinical studies, and medical device development. His work bridges translational research and clinical practice, fostering national and international partnerships.

He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to five book chapters, and co-authored four National Guidelines. Cahill serves on editorial boards of journals including Colorectal Disease and European Journal of Surgical Oncology, and is a member of the SAGES Research Committee.
