Ronaldo Luna

Dr. Ronaldo Luna is Professor and Chair of Civil Engineering at Saint Louis University. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) from Georgia Institute of Technology, M.S.C.E from Purdue University, and B.S. from University of Maryland. His research examines dynamic soil behavior, liquefaction phenomena, GIS applications in civil engineering, and foundation design principles.

Research investigates soil response under seismic loading, liquefaction resistance of fine-grained soils, and field performance of deep foundations. Recent work emphasizes IoT applications for infrastructure monitoring and micropile behavior under combined loading conditions. Publications demonstrate consistent focus on experimental geotechnics, with significant contributions to understanding post-liquefaction soil behavior.

Professional honors include ASCE Fellowship and NSF CAREER Award recognition. He actively contributes to NRC/TRB committees and chairs ASCE Geo-Institute's Computer Applications Committee.

Administratively, Dr. Luna leads departmental initiatives and has secured research funding from NSF, USGS and state DOTs. His geotechnical field investigations include reconnaissance of the 2009 Honduras earthquake.
