Dr. Ronald Parks is Professor of Music at Winthrop University where he serves as area coordinator for music composition and technology and Director of the Winthrop Computer Music Lab. With a BM from North Carolina School of the Arts, MM from University of Florida, and PhD from University at Buffalo, his research explores acoustic/electroacoustic hybrid works, granular synthesis, and spectral filtering. An active composer, his orchestral and chamber works have been performed globally and featured at venues including the International Computer Music Conference and New York Electroacoustic Music Festival.
His research interests center on innovative approaches to music creation, combining traditional composition with emerging technologies. This includes developing FFT-based spectral filtering methods and exploring interactive computer music systems that bridge acoustic and digital realms.
Dr. Parks has received numerous honors including the Aaron Copland Award and multiple composition scholarships. His works are available on labels including Albany Records and Navona Records. As Director of the Winthrop Computer Music Lab, he oversees creative technology integration and mentors students in digital music production.
