Ronald Mason, Jr. is a Professor at the David A. Clark School of Law, University of the District of Columbia. He transitioned to this role after retiring as the university's president in August 2023. With 40 years in higher education, he previously served as president of the Southern University System, Jackson State University, and held senior roles at Tulane University, including General Counsel and Executive Monitor of the New Orleans Public Housing Authority.
Education: B.A. and J.D. from Columbia University.
Research focuses on education law, urban community development, and social justice initiatives. Key initiatives include the DAWN program to enhance workforce readiness in marginalized communities, the Five-Fifths Agenda to uplift Black men's academic and professional outcomes, and the Mississippi Learning Institute for K-12 partnerships. He founded the Tulane/Xavier National Center for the Urban Community.
Awards highlight his leadership, including presidential advisory roles on HBCUs and decades of service to historically Black institutions. He pioneered Martin Luther King Week for Peace across multiple universities.
