Ronald J. Unnerstall is Professor of Practice at the University of Virginia. He served as the 2019 Brenton S. Halsey Distinguished Visiting Professor, teaching a senior-level school-wide course on human values and practices in technical business and industry for engineering students. Prior to academia, he had a 34-year career at BP in Oil and Gas, holding executive roles including Refinery Manager (Toledo), CEO of BP-Husky Joint Venture, CEO of Global Acetyls business, and Group Head of Engineering, with expertise in safety leadership and operational excellence.
Education includes:
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering - Purdue University
- M.S. in Management - Stanford University
Research interests focus on industrial applications of chemical engineering, process safety systems, refining technology optimization, business leadership in technical organizations, and operational excellence methodologies.
