Ronald Greene is a Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Minnesota's College of Liberal Arts. He has served as Chair of the Department of Communication Studies (2012-2021) and currently chairs the CLA Assembly and sits on the Dean's Executive Committee. His research focuses on how institutions regulate communication to enhance democratic decision-making, with a focus on rhetorical practices in political, educational, and economic contexts.
Education: BA in Philosophy (University of South Carolina, 1986), MA in Speech Communication (Louisiana State University, 1988), PhD in Speech Communication (University of Illinois, 1995). Specializes in Political Communication, Rhetorical Theory, Argumentation Studies, and Cultural Studies.
Recent articles emphasize materialist rhetoric, organizational democracy, and truth-telling mechanisms. His work bridges rhetorical theory with critical cultural studies, exploring topics like superdiversity governance and whistleblowing rhetoric.
Awards include the NCA's Distinguished Scholar Award and Charles Woolbert Research Award. He has held leadership roles in the National Communication Association, Rhetorical Society of America, and other scholarly organizations.
His advising and grants focus on advancing critical communication theories. Active in interdisciplinary work, he has contributed to journals in rhetorical studies and cultural criticism.
