Ronald C. McGarry

Ronald C. McGarry, MD, PhD, is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Radiation Medicine at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, affiliated with the UK Markey Cancer Center. He has over 35 years of experience in radiation oncology and is a pioneer in stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) in the United States.

His research interests focus on advanced radiation therapies for cancers such as lung cancer, lymphoma, melanoma, and brain tumors, with a strong emphasis on precision treatment using technologies like Gamma Knife radiosurgery and SBRT. He integrates clinical practice with research and clinical trials to improve patient outcomes while minimizing side effects.

Dr. McGarry has previously held professorial positions at Indiana University, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and the University of Calgary (Department of Paediatrics). He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and in Gamma Knife technology.

He places high importance on patient education and multidisciplinary care, working closely with medical oncologists and surgeons to develop personalized treatment plans. His clinical philosophy centers on accuracy, quality assurance, and patient-centered communication.

Outside of his professional duties, he enjoys clay target shooting, photography, and traveling.
