Román Baca is a Researcher at the School of the Arts, York St John University, pursuing a PhD focused on "The Military Human: Dance, Embodied Experience and Future Thinking amongst Veterans". His work merges artistic practice with veterans' mental health, using participatory arts to explore moral questioning and self-representation. He concurrently serves as an Early Career Researcher at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and a Junior Research Scientist with the USAF/USN Research Unit.
Research interests include the intersection of dance, military experience, and well-being, with a focus on fostering empathy through performative outcomes. His interdisciplinary approach investigates how creativity and embodied practices can aid veterans in future-oriented self-expression while promoting societal empathy.
Román combines a background as a US Marine Iraq War Veteran (served in Fallujah) and classical ballet dancer to bridge artistic innovation with veteran support. Collaborations involve academic and military research institutions, emphasizing practical impact through artistic interventions.
