Nina Atkinson

Nina Atkinson is a Lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University, affiliated with the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and the Centre for Research in Arts and Creative Exchange. Her work bridges contemporary dance, installation art, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She holds a Masters of Arts in Creative Practice (2015) and a Dance Theatre degree (1992) from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Her research focuses on creating emotive, site-specific, and immersive artwork that engages audiences through sensory environments. A key project, 'Exploring Sensory Sensation (ESS)', investigates kinaesthetic empathy in collaboration with neuroscientist Dr. Judith Bex of the BEAM lab at the University of Manchester. Nina is also committed to mentoring emerging dance artists and fostering creativity through community and educational projects.

Her professional experience includes founding Loop Dance Company (1993), leading community dance initiatives, and teaching in New York at institutions like PeridanceCenter. She has studied Limón technique and teaching methodologies, further enriching her artistic practice.
