Romina Rodela is an Associate Professor and Researcher at Södertörn University's Department for Environment, Development and Sustainability Studies, within the School of Natural Sciences, Technology and Environmental Studies. She serves as Research Coordinator for the 'Sustainability challenges and pathways' theme since 2021. Her expertise lies in environmental governance, participatory processes, and social/environmental justice, with a focus on transdisciplinary collaboration with societal actors to produce actionable knowledge for policy and practice.
Rodela holds a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Post-doctoral background from Wageningen University (NL), and maintains active collaborations with European institutions. Her current research emphasizes participatory methods, youth engagement, and decision support tools for inclusive urban planning. Key projects include LEARNING FROM CRISIS (FORMAS 2020-02844) and PLANNING WITH YOUTH (FORMAS 2019-01887), which focus on marginalized urban groups and youth-driven sustainability solutions.
Her work integrates innovative methodologies such as serious games, participatory soundscapes, and mosaic governance frameworks. She has guest-edited Special Issues on social learning and authored over 100 publications spanning environmental policy, biodiversity, and climate activism. Rodela supervises MSc and PhD candidates exploring topics like participatory process design, urban nature access, and sustainability leadership through play.
Notable past projects include VIVAPLAN (FORMAS 2018-00175) for revitalizing urban spaces and 'Activating children' (2020-21) for sustainability education. Her research highlights the intersection of equity, creativity, and systemic change in environmental governance.
