Romain Chareyron is an Associate Professor of French and Undergraduate Chair at the University of Saskatchewan's Modern Languages and Cultural Studies department within the College of Arts and Science. His research focuses on contemporary French and Francophone cinema with specializations in disability representation, youth narratives, gender and sexuality studies, and film genres. He has published extensively including books like Trans Identities in the French Media (2022) and Screening Youth (2019). His work explores themes such as queer identities, body politics, and socio-cultural issues in French cinema.
Education: PhD from University of Alberta (2010), MA from Université Toulouse-Le Mirail (2003-2004). Awards include SSHRC funding (2021). Teaching includes courses on French cinema, language, and literature such as 'Stardom in French Cinema' and 'Youth in French Cinema.'
Recent research projects examine disability representation in French cinema and the evolving portrayal of trans identities in media. His presentations include keynote addresses on queer cinema and LGBTQ+ representation at institutions like the University of Kansas and SAMLA conferences.
