Romain Allart is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for Research on Exoplanets (IREx) at the University of Montreal, supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation's Postdoc.Mobility fellowship and previously the Trottier postdoctoral fellowship. His research centers on the characterization of exoplanet atmospheres through high-resolution spectroscopy.
He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Geneva, completed in 2020. His doctoral work utilized transmission spectroscopy to probe exoplanetary atmospheric layers, notably demonstrating the utility of the helium triplet for upper atmosphere studies and constraining cloud altitudes via combined ESPRESSO and Hubble observations.
Dr. Allart specializes in high-resolution observations of exoplanet atmospheres using instruments like ESPRESSO, NIRPS, and SPIRou. At the University of Montreal, he is expanding his expertise by integrating high-resolution data with low-resolution observations from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). This multi-resolution approach enables comprehensive analysis of atmospheric composition, structure, and evolution, providing critical insights into exoplanet formation. His current work includes supporting NIRPS data processing and leading a major 225-night observation program with the NIRPS consortium.
His scientific awards include:
- Postdoc.Mobility Fellowship (Swiss National Science Foundation)
- Trottier Postdoctoral Fellowship
As a dedicated member of the IREx community, Dr. Allart contributes to public outreach through events like Astronomy on Tap, serves on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the Social Committee, and actively participates in knowledge dissemination in Montreal.
