Rolf Gerritsen is an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Society, Northern Institute, Charles Darwin University. He has extensive experience in public policy, regional governance, and sustainable development, having held roles such as Director of the Australian Centre for Regional and Local Government Studies and Director of Social/Economic Policy in the NT Chief Minister’s Department. His research focuses on Northern Australia’s development, Indigenous knowledge systems, and environmental policy.
Prior affiliations include the Australian National University (ANU) Graduate Program in Public Policy and his own research consultancy. He has led the Central Australian Research Group for a decade and contributed to projects like the CRCNA Co-mapping initiative and solar photovoltaic waste management studies in remote areas.
Key areas of research include territorial governance, economic and social development, and the interplay between policy and Indigenous communities. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly regarding sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) and responsible consumption (SDG 12).
He supervises postgraduate research, including a PhD on Indigenous knowledge in Bangladesh’s handloom production. His grants and projects span environmental impact assessments, construction waste management, and sustainable development training programs.
