Roland Vogl

Dr. Roland Vogl serves as the Executive Director of CodeX - the Stanford Center for Legal Informatics and the Stanford Program in Law, Science and Technology, while also holding the position of Lecturer in Law at Stanford Law School. Additionally, he is a Visiting Professor at both the University of Vienna in Austria, where he teaches U.S. intellectual property law, and Bocconi University in Italy, where he teaches computational law. Dr. Vogl also serves on the Board of Directors for Merico, LexCheck, and IPNexus, and sits on the advisory boards of Thomson Reuters, Midpage.ai, Lawgood and Clairvolex.

Dr. Vogl's educational background includes a Dr.iur. (JSD) and Mag.iur. (JD) from Leopold-Franzens University of Innsbruck, Austria, completed in 2002 and 1998 respectively, as well as a JSM from Stanford Law School earned in 2000.

He co-founded and served as CFOO of Vator, Inc. and SIPX, Inc., a copyright technology company acquired by ProQuest in 2015. His professional journey includes roles as an IP associate at Fenwick & West LLP, press associate at the European Parliament, and law clerk at the European Commission's Directorate General for Audiovisual Media, Information and Communication. These diverse experiences inform his interdisciplinary approach to legal technology.

As Executive Director of CodeX, Dr. Vogl leads a dynamic center that serves as a nexus for legal informatics research and development. The center fosters collaboration between legal scholars, technologists, and practitioners working to advance the application of technology in law. Under his leadership, CodeX has hosted significant events including the FutureLaw Conference, which celebrated 20 years of legal-tech leadership with standing-room-only panels, hackathons, and international conferences that spotlight how technology is reshaping legal practice, policy, and access to justice.
