Daniel W. Linna Jr. holds a joint appointment as Senior Lecturer and Director of Law and Technology Initiatives at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and McCormick School of Engineering. He is also an affiliated faculty member at CodeX – The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics. His expertise spans artificial intelligence, computational law, legal innovation, and technology-driven legal frameworks.
Dr. Linna earned a BA from the University of Michigan, an MA in public policy from Michigan State University, and a JD magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. His career includes roles as an equity partner at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, founder of LegalRnD at Michigan State University, and visiting professorships at Bucerius Law School and IE Law School. He co-founded the Institute for the Future of Law Practice and the Chicago Legal Innovation & Technology meetup group.
His research focuses on AI in legal services, regulatory governance, and data-driven legal practices. Recent articles address algorithmic foundations in law, ethical AI tool development, and quality metrics for legal services. Awards include the 2015 Fastcase 50 and 2018 ABA Legal Rebel recognition.
Linna chairs the ABA Business Law Section’s Legal Analytics Committee and hosts the Law Technology Now podcast, discussing innovations in legal technology and practice. His work bridges law, engineering, and data science to modernize legal service delivery.
