Roland Metz is a part-time sign language instructor affiliated with the Department of German Philology at the University of Göttingen. He also teaches at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden and serves as an advisory board member for the Rhineland-Palatinate State Association of the Deaf. Previously, he worked full-time as a structural draftsman for 19 years in a private engineering firm and now works with the Rhineland-Palatinate State Office for Property and Construction Management in Mainz.
Metz founded the Deaf Pride-oriented association 'SignTimes,' offering sign language courses developed by deaf instructors and linguists. His work focuses on German and American deaf culture, inclusion, and combating audism, emphasizing solidarity within the Deaf community and respectful interactions between hearing and deaf individuals.
His teaching roles include instruction in sign language and deaf culture, with future-oriented research collaborations in Göttingen. He advocates for individual inclusion and cultural preservation within the Deaf community.
