Roland Franz Erben

Prof. Dr. Roland Franz Erben is a Professor in the Business Psychology program at Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences since 2013, where he serves as Head of Project Examination Office for the Bachelor WP program. His teaching focuses on Finance and Accounting, Controlling, and Risk Management within the Business field of study, covering Bachelor and Master programs in Business Psychology.

Dr. Erben earned his Dipl.-Kfm. (equivalent to a Master's degree) in Business Administration from Julius-Maximilians University of Würzburg, followed by a doctorate in economics from the same institution where he served as a research assistant from 1995 to 2000.

Professor Erben's research focuses on the intersection of risk management with human resources, business transformation, and emerging technologies. His work bridges theoretical risk frameworks with practical business applications, particularly in organizational contexts. His recent research has increasingly focused on HR risk management throughout the employee lifecycle, sustainable culture in business transformation, and the application of risk management principles to emerging areas like cryptocurrencies and NFTs.

His publication record shows a strong trend toward integrating risk management with human factors and organizational psychology. While maintaining a foundation in traditional risk management frameworks (ISO 31000, COSO ERM), his recent work has shifted toward more specialized applications in HR, sustainable business practices, and digital transformation. This evolution reflects both the changing business landscape and his unique interdisciplinary approach combining business psychology with risk management expertise.

Professor Erben serves on several advisory boards including the RMA Risk Management & Rating Association e.V. in Munich, Campus Konzept Stuttgart e.V. in Stuttgart, and the Supervisory Board of i.EPC Solutions AG in Leipzig.

Throughout his career, Professor Erben has maintained strong connections between academia and industry practice. Before joining HFT Stuttgart as a full professor, he served as an Acting Professor at the University of Ulm and worked extensively in industry as a management consultant specializing in risk management and controlling. His industry experience spans roles at InSynCo AG, CSC Ploenzke AG, and telegate AG, providing him with substantial practical expertise that informs his academic work.
