Dr. Zebaze holds a Doctor of Medicine and is recognized as a clinician, scientist, and inventor. His research focuses on understanding the pathogenesis of bone diseases through advanced imaging and biomechanical analysis, including HR-pQCT, nano-indentation, and SEM. He proposes that bone fragility in conditions like atypical femoral fractures arises from tissue disorganization rather than density deficits alone, leading to the development of the novel diagnostic tool ALIGNOGRAM 1.0.
His recent publications span topics such as fracture epidemiology in diabetic populations of African ancestry, genetic causes of osteoporosis, and AI-driven detection of fractures. These works reflect a strong trend toward integrating clinical data, imaging technology, and computational methods to address unmet diagnostic needs in bone health.
Dr. Zebaze has received multiple scientific awards, including:
- AMGEN-ANZBMS Outstanding Abstract - Clinical Presentation (2014)
- IOF Servier Young Investigator Award (2008)
- IOF-ESCEO Young Investigator Award (2012)
- Kaye Ibbertson Award (2005)
- Outstanding Abstract Award in Densitometry (2004)
He is a chief investigator on the NHMRC-funded TrAFFiC project, which investigates genetic and microstructural risk factors for atypical femur fractures. His work has led to over 10 patented inventions, including the StrAx 1.0 device, approved by TGA and CE. He is actively engaged in industry partnerships, notably with CurveBeam AI Limited, and serves on advisory boards such as the International Osteoporosis Foundation. His research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being.
Dr. Zebaze’s laboratory and research team focus on advanced bone imaging and biomechanics, operating within the academic-clinical environment of Monash Health. The team collaborates across disciplines including endocrinology, genetics, radiology, and artificial intelligence to develop next-generation diagnostic tools for bone fragility.
