Associate Professor Roger Liang holds a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Queensland and is affiliated with the University of Newcastle's School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy. He leads the drug delivery research group, focusing on advanced drug delivery systems and nanomedicine at the intersection of chemical engineering, materials science, and medicine. His teaching includes formulation science and drug design in the Bachelor of Pharmacy program.
Research expertise spans biomaterials development, self-assembled structures for disease treatment, and nanoparticle-based therapies for cancer, asthma, and infectious diseases. Key projects include hyaluronidase-combined nanoparticles for tumor penetration and albumin-based drug carriers for ovarian and breast cancers. He has secured over $2.5M in grants, including NHMRC funding for adrenal disease nanotherapies and anti-viral RNA delivery systems.
Dr. Liang has supervised 14 graduate students and published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals like Nature Nanotechnology and ACS Nano. His lab actively collaborates on translational projects such as non-surgical sterilization technologies and targeted respiratory virus treatments.
