Anne-Louise Gannon is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Newcastle's School of Environmental and Life Sciences, specializing in endocrinology, nanobiotechnology, and gene editing. She leads the Gannon Group laboratory on Callaghan campus and contributes to the HMRI Ignite Leadership Committee (2018-present).
Education:
- PhD in Adrenal Hormone Regulation, University of Edinburgh (2018)
- MRes in Cancer Biology, University of Dundee (2014)
- Biology Honours, University of Dundee (2009)
Research Focus: Her work bridges adrenal androgen signaling, nanotechnology for gene therapy, and transgenic mouse models. Key themes include adrenal disease therapeutics, single-injection sterilants, and stress hormone-testis interactions. She employs AAV9-Cre gene targeting, lipid-polymer nanoparticles, and in silico modeling.
Publication Impact: Her 2016-2025 output spans ovarian cancer resistance mechanisms, adrenal X-zone biology, and nano-delivery systems, with first-author papers in Endocrinology, FASEB Journal, and Frontiers in Endocrinology. Notable 2024 work includes dual studies on HSD17B enzyme redundancy and microfluidic nanoparticle synthesis.
Awards:
- New Investigator Award, 17th Annual Adrenal Cortex Conference (2016)
- HMRI Ignite Leadership Committee member
Teaching: Lectures on Reproductive Physiology (BIOL3020) at UoN and mentored students through the Women in Reproduction initiative. Supervises PhD projects on epididymal-sperm epigenome links and adrenal nanotherapy.
