Roger Glass is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Strathclyde, serving as Convener of the MLitt in Creative Writing and MLitt in Interdisciplinary English Studies. He holds a Doctor of Literature (2008) from the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on contemporary fiction, literary biography, and Scottish literature, with a particular emphasis on Alasdair Gray. Glass has authored eight books, including the award-winning Alasdair Gray: A Secretary’s Biography (2008), and contributes to international literary festivals and media.
Education: PhD in Literature (University of Glasgow, 2008).
Research Interests: Creative nonfiction, short story forms, and the intersection of literature and disability studies. His work explores compassion in extreme landscapes, hybrid genres, and the poetics of Scottish writers like Michel Faber and Alasdair Gray.
Awards: Somerset Maugham Award (2009), Anne Brown Essay Prize (2023), Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award (2014).
Professional Activities: Organizes events such as Translating Alasdair Gray (2025) and collaborates with the Alasdair Gray Archive. Serves on the Festival Advisory Committee for Aye Write! Book Festival since 2020.
Labs/Teams: Leads creative writing programs and oversees interdisciplinary projects at Strathclyde, partnering with institutions like the Italian Cultural Institute and the Alasdair Gray Archive.
