Abi Curtis is a Professor of Creative Writing at York St John University, serving as Coordinator for the MA and MFA programs and Research Lead for the School of Humanities. She holds a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing from the University of Sussex. Her work spans poetry, fiction, and interdisciplinary projects, with a focus on climate change, psychoanalysis, and environmental themes. Key publications include Water & Glass (2017), The Glass Delusion (2012), and Unexpected Weather (2009). She has received awards such as the Somerset Maugham Award and Eric Gregory Award, and her research explores speculative fiction, maternal dystopias, and animal studies.
Curtis collaborates across disciplines, including projects with the Natural History Museum and composer David Lancaster. She leads initiatives like the Pollination Project, blending art and ecology. Her teaching emphasizes creativity, critical theory, and interdisciplinary approaches. She actively participates in literary festivals and mentoring, supervising PhD students in creative writing.
