Edmund Gordon is a Senior Lecturer in Creative and Critical Writing at King's College London, based in the Department of English (Faculty of Arts & Humanities). He joined King’s in 2012 as a Lecturer in Creative Writing and holds degrees from Trinity College Dublin (BA) and University College London (MA). His research focuses on biography, literary criticism, and modern British literature, with a particular emphasis on figures like Angela Carter and feminist literary studies.
Gordon’s work includes The Invention of Angela Carter (2016), which won major awards including the Somerset Maugham Award and the Biographers’ Club Prize. He is also a prolific reviewer, contributing essays to the London Review of Books, TLS, and major newspapers. His critical writing explores themes such as gender, power, and narrative form in contemporary and historical texts.
- Teaching: Undergraduate/graduate courses in Creative Writing and Life Writing, including Prose Fiction and MA-level Biography modules.
- Awards: Royal Society of Literature Fellowship (2018), Jerwood Award for Nonfiction (2012), Somerset Maugham Award (2017).
His recent publications analyze works by Hilary Mantel, Martin Amis, and Garth Greenwell, reflecting his interest in historical fiction, queer theory, and cultural critique. He actively supervises PhD students in areas related to his research interests.
