Roger Fernandes is a Lecturer in the Department of American Indian Studies at the University of Washington, affiliated with the College of Arts & Sciences. A member of the Lower Elwha S’Klallam Tribe, he holds a B.A. in Native American Studies from The Evergreen State College and an M.A. in Whole Systems Design from Antioch University.
His work bridges art, education, and cultural preservation, specializing in Coast Salish design and oral storytelling as tools for teaching and healing. He currently teaches at the University of Washington, Northwest Indian College, and other institutions, emphasizing Indigenous knowledge systems.
He is affiliated with the wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ Intellectual House and the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute. His professional experience spans Native education, social work, and arts advocacy, with a focus on revitalizing Indigenous cultural practices.
