Roger Easton Jr

Roger Easton Jr. is a Professor at the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science within the College of Science at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). His work focuses on spectral and multispectral imaging techniques for cultural heritage preservation and historical document analysis.

• Education: BS from Haverford College, MS from the University of Maryland, and MS/PhD from the University of Arizona.

His research involves advanced imaging methods to recover obscured texts in palimpsests, such as the Archimedes Palimpsest and David Livingstone’s diaries. He has developed standardized systems for multispectral imaging and contributed to Fourier analysis in imaging applications.

Recent projects include the MISHA (Multispectral Imaging System for Historical Artifacts) system, which has been deployed internationally to aid small and medium cultural institutions in preserving and analyzing historical documents through non-invasive spectral techniques.

He teaches courses on Fourier methods, physical optics, and image processing, emphasizing mathematical frameworks and computational techniques for graduate and undergraduate students at RIT.
