Anthony Vodacek is a Full Professor at the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science within the College of Science at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). With a research focus on multi-modal remote sensing and machine learning applications, he specializes in integrating imaging with modeling to monitor terrestrial and aquatic systems. He has taught core courses like Imaging Science Fundamentals and Environmental Applications of Remote Sensing, while leading projects in precision agriculture, harmful algal blooms, and biodiversity assessment via remote sensing of insects and the African Great Lakes.
- BS in Chemistry (1981) from University of Wisconsin-Madison
- MS (1985) and PhD (1990) in Environmental Engineering from Cornell University
His work emphasizes spectral phenomenology, image interpretation, and dynamic data-driven systems, often applied to environmental monitoring and developing regions. Recent collaborations include deploying machine learning in Kenyan and Ecuadorian indigenous communities to address human-wildlife conflict and climate challenges.
Key publications include landslide risk assessment research (2021). Awards highlight his global contributions: a Fulbright Specialist Fellowship (2019) in Malaysia, Senior Membership in IEEE, and Corresponding Fellow status at the Pan-African Scientific Research Council. He also serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Great Lakes Research and supports IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa.
