Roger Draheim is an Associate Head (Research and Innovation) at the Faculty of Science and Health, University of Portsmouth, focusing on synthetic microbiology, biochemistry, and biophysics. He serves as a PhD Supervisor and is actively involved in developing next-generation biological platforms for detecting novel antimicrobial compounds.
Roger’s research centers on
- Using aromatic tuning to modulate signal output from two-component signaling circuits in bacteria
- Characterizing EnvZ-MzrA porin-regulatory complexes (PRCs) for molecular insights
- Engineering synthetic bacterial signaling pathways for high-throughput screening applications
His publications from 2015–2024 demonstrate expertise in antimicrobial discovery, biofilm control, and membrane protein engineering, with recent work on silver nanowires, fluoridated chitosan, and synthetic receptor systems.
Roger’s career spans institutions including Texas A&M University (PhD in Microbiology), Stockholm University (NIH-funded postdoc), and Durham University (Lecturer in Pharmacy). He has collaborated extensively on biomedical applications of nanomaterials and polymer science.
