Roger Rubio Sánchez is a BBSRC Discovery Research Fellow at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Cambridge, and a Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College. He completed his BSc in Biotechnology Engineering at Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (2015), followed by an MRes in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (2017) and a PhD in Physics (2021) at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge. His postdoctoral work includes appointments at Imperial College London (Department of Chemistry) and the University of Cambridge (Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology).
Roger's research focuses on synthetic cell science and engineering biology, using DNA nanotechnology to study membrane signaling and create cell-like agents for biomedical applications. His work aims to decode biophysical principles of membrane organization and develop synthetic cells with immune-like functionalities for pathogen detection.
Scientific awards include:
- BBSRC Discovery Research Fellow
As coordinator and lecturer of the Bionanotechnology course in the MRes in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and MPhil in Micro and Nanotechnology Enterprise programmes, he contributes to academic training in advanced biotechnologies.
