Roger D. Kornberg is the Winzer Professor of Structural Biology at the Department of Structural Biology, Stanford University School of Medicine, where he has held faculty positions since 1978. He was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (1993) and the Royal Society (2009), and received numerous honors including the 2006 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
His research focuses on the structure and function of RNA polymerases, chromosome organization, and the molecular mechanisms of transcription and gene regulation. He has held leadership roles, including Chairman of Structural Biology at Stanford (1984-1992).
