Dr. Roe Fremstedal is Professor of Philosophy at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), specializing in existential philosophy, ethics, and philosophy of religion. He serves as program director for BA and MA studies in Philosophy and Ethics at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.
His research focuses on Kantian and Kierkegaardian philosophy, exploring themes of selfhood, moral psychology, despair, hope, and the relationship between morality and religion. He examines fundamental questions about why individuals should be moral and how values influence human existence.
Fremstedal's publications demonstrate expertise in comparative analyses of philosophical traditions, particularly examining connections between Kant's moral philosophy and Kierkegaard's existential thought. His current book project critically examines the relationship between morality and self-interest.
He is an elected member of The Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters and serves on editorial boards of Kierkegaard Studies Yearbook and Con-textos Kantianos.
