Rodrigo Pinheiro Bastos is a Research Assistant and Guest Researcher at the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management within the Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the same institution, focusing on ecological restoration processes based on soil parameters, biomass, and ecophysiology in formerly degraded lands in the Amazon forest and Denmark.
His educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Forestry Engineering, Universidade de Brasília (2008)
- M.Sc. in Tropical Forest Sciences, National Institute of Amazonia Researchers (2011)
- PhD candidate, University of Copenhagen (current)
Bastos's research interests span Restoration Ecology, Soil Science, Forestry, and Carbon Sequestration, with a geographic focus on the Amazon forest. His work aims to understand and restore degraded ecosystems through interdisciplinary approaches that integrate soil science, plant physiology, and forest management.
His 7 recent publications (2014-2022) reflect a strong trend in applying restoration ecology to degraded lands in the Amazon and Denmark. Key themes include soil attribute recovery, biomass production, and carbon sequestration in plantation systems. The work bridges tropical and temperate forest management, with an emphasis on sustainable land use and climate change mitigation.
Scientific awards: None reported.
As a PhD candidate, Rodrigo Pinheiro Bastos is not advising graduate students. He has been involved in a Danish research project aimed at transferring restoration techniques to Brazil, as reported in 2017, which provided funding for his collaborative work.
He is a member of the Forest and Landscape Ecology research group within the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, and actively collaborates with institutions in Brazil, particularly on Amazon forest restoration projects.
