Yiqing Li is a Professor of Tropical Forest Ecology & Management at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo's College of Agriculture, Forestry & Natural Resource Management (CAFNRM), affiliated with the Tropical Conservation Biology and Environmental Science (TCBES) department. He holds a B.S. from Inner Mongolia Forestry College, M.S. from Beijing Forestry University, and Ph.D. from the University of Puerto Rico. His research focuses on forest soil ecology, tropical carbon sequestration, silviculture, invasive species impacts, and sustainable resource management.
Teaching responsibilities include courses like FOR 202 (Forestry & Natural Resources), FOR 440 (Forest Ecosystem Restoration/Management), and NRES 410 (Invasive Species & Ecosystems). Recent research examines climate change impacts on soil processes, restoration ecology of dry forests, and earthworm biodiversity global patterns. His work spans tropical regions including Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and China, with publications in leading journals like Science, Global Change Biology, and Plant and Soil.
Key research themes include: soil carbon dynamics under land use changes, nitrogen/phosphorus cycling in warming environments, and invasive species' agricultural impacts. Laboratory and field experiments are central to his work, with a focus on practical applications for ecosystem restoration and sustainable management.
