Roddy Hiram is an Associate Professor and researcher in the Department of Medicine at the Université de Montréal, affiliated with the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI). His primary research focuses on atrial fibrillation (AF), particularly its links to inflammation, right heart disease, and aging. He leads a team exploring therapeutic strategies targeting pro-resolution inflammatory pathways to prevent AF. His academic roles include teaching in the Master's program in Biomedical Sciences and supervising graduate students.
Education: PhD in Pharmacology-Physiology from Université de Sherbrooke (2016), Postdoctoral training at Université de Montréal (2016–2021). Affiliations include the Montreal Heart Institute and the Quebec Network for Research on Aging (RQRV). He is a member of the American Heart Association (AHA) and Heart Rhythm Society (HRS).
Research emphasizes mechanisms connecting chronic inflammation, cardiac remodeling, and AF. Key projects investigate the role of molecules like Resolvin-D1 and LAV-BPIFB4 in reducing arrhythmia vulnerability. Collaborations span North America and Europe, leveraging advanced imaging and electrophysiology tools. His lab actively recruits students for Master’s and PhD programs.
Honors include the 2021 Talent des Outre-mer Award and multiple grants from Canadian and international funding bodies. His work has led to over 30 peer-reviewed publications and frequent conference presentations.
