Dr. Rochelle Sennet is a Professor of Piano and the inaugural Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the College of Fine and Applied Arts, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She is a Yamaha Artist and Voting Member of The Recording Academy, with a research focus on classical piano performance, diversity in music, and works by Black composers.

Dr. Sennet’s scholarly and artistic work bridges piano performance, pedagogy, and advocacy for diversity in classical music. Her performances and recordings emphasize J.S. Bach alongside works by Black composers like James Lee III and George Walker, challenging conventional repertoire norms. She has pioneered memory-based chamber music performances through her co-founding of Duo MemDi.
She has received significant recognition, including the Gold Medal from Global Music Awards (2021) and the Faculty Research and Creative Activity Recognition Award (2024). Her op-eds on diversity in higher education have reached over 7 million readers.
Dr. Sennet’s students have excelled nationally and internationally, winning competitions and participating in prestigious festivals. She also serves as a faculty affiliate in the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center (REEEC), contributing to interdisciplinary research.
