Rocco Luigi Nichil is an Associate Professor in Italian Linguistics at the Department of Humanistic Studies, University of Salento. He holds a PhD in "Historical Linguistics and History of the Italian Language" from La Sapienza - University of Rome and has been a researcher (RTD A) since 2020. His expertise spans Italian linguistics, philology, and language teaching, with a focus on historical language evolution, lexicography, and dialectology.
- Key roles: Associate Professor (University of Salento), Editor of "Lid'O. Lingua italiana d'oggi", Contributor to Treccani.it's Linguistic Magazine, Collaborator of Lessico Etimologico Italiano (LEI).
His research interests include the history of the Italian language, migration narratives, Fascist-era linguistic policies, colonial vocabulary, and political terminology. He has authored monographs on sports linguistics (The Century of Balls), clandestine language (Clandestine), and football's political symbolism (Pitch Invasion), alongside numerous journal articles and conference proceedings.
Recent publications highlight his work on Fascist political discourse, Italian military terminology, and the etymology of nationalistic phrases. His articles span historical lexicology, political rhetoric, and post-colonial linguistic traces, with a particular focus on the 20th century. He teaches courses at both Bachelor's and Master's levels, including Italian Philology and language didactics.
