Luca Refrigeri is a researcher affiliated with the Romance Philology Department at Saarland University since 2023, where he works on the Lessico Etimologico Italiano (LEI) project. Concurrently, he is a PhD candidate at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, supervised by Prof. Dr. Guido Mensching, Prof. Ilaria Zamuner, and Dr. Frank Savelsberg. Previously, he held research positions at Göttingen (2020–2023) and interned at Heidelberg University (2019).
His research focuses on Romance philology, etymology, and manuscript studies, particularly analyzing textual traditions of medieval and early modern Macer Floridus translations and paratextual elements in Hebrew and Arabic script adaptations of Avicenna’s medical works. His recent publications explore the diffusion of medical-botanical terminology and the interplay between historical linguistics and cultural transmission.
Luca is actively involved in academic conferences, presenting on topics like Occitan legal language, medieval pastoral academies, and magical elements in 15th-century medical treatises. His educational background includes a Double Degree MA in Modern Philology/Italian Studies from Sapienza University of Rome and Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, as well as a BA in Modern Letters from Sapienza University of Rome.
