Robin Sen

Dr. Robin Sen is a Lecturer in Social Work at the University of Edinburgh's School of Social and Political Science. With extensive experience in child and family social work, Dr. Sen contributes significantly to both teaching and research in social work practice, particularly focusing on children's services, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Dr. Sen's research interests primarily center on child and family social work and children's services. They explore how racially minoritized and LGBTQ+ identities manifest in social work practice, teaching, and thought. Their work also examines governance issues in children's services, as evidenced by their 2023 co-edited volume "The Future of Children's Care: Critical Perspectives on Children's Services Reform" with Christian Kerr. Additional research themes include Children and families, Governance & Democracy, Identities & Inequalities, and Race and decolonial thought.

Dr. Sen's recent publications reveal a strong focus on child protection systems, the impacts of COVID-19 on social work practice, and the increasing privatization of children's care services. Their work consistently addresses issues of racial justice, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and the political governance of social work, with numerous publications from 2023-2025 demonstrating active scholarly engagement.

Dr. Sen actively encourages newer authors to submit to academic journals and volunteers with LGBT Health and Wellbeing in Edinburgh, demonstrating commitment to community engagement that complements their academic work.
