Sir Robin Jacob is the Sir Hugh Laddie Chair of Intellectual Property Law at the Faculty of Laws, University College London (UCL), a position he has held since May 2011. He is Director of the UCL Institute of Brand and Innovation Law (IBIL). Previously, he served as a Lord Justice of Appeal (2003–2011) and High Court Judge in the Chancery Division (1993–2003). His career spans judicial roles, academia, and international arbitration.
Education: Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, followed by legal training at Gray’s Inn. He practiced at the Intellectual Property Bar from 1967, becoming Queen’s Counsel in 1981.
Research focuses on intellectual property law, litigation systems, and legal institutions. He actively contributes to legal education and policy, including roles at the European Law Centre and the Intellectual Property Judges’ Association. He arbitrates globally through bodies like the LCIA and ICC.
