Robin Fales is an Assistant Professor of Marine Ecology at the College of Undergraduate Studies, Soka University of America. Her academic journey includes a PhD in Biological Science from the University of Washington (2019-2023), an MS from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (2016-2019), and a BS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from University of California, Irvine.
- Education:
- PhD Biological Science, University of Washington
- MS Biological Science, Cal Poly Pomona
- BS Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, UC Irvine
Her research focuses on the impacts of climate change on marine foundation species, combining laboratory physiology experiments, biogeochemical analysis, functional trait analysis, field surveys, and meta-analytical approaches. Key areas include:
- Climate stressor integration across scales
- Foundation species community interactions
- Biodiversity documentation
- Marine microplastic policy analysis
Recent publications explore kelp microbial responses to warming, rockweed ecological restoration, and latitudinal biodiversity shifts. She received the Open Access Award and Best Student Paper recognition for her 2020 meta-analysis on bivalve-seagrass interactions.
- Scientific Awards:
- Open Access Award
- Best Student Paper (2020)
Dr. Fales has held postdoctoral and graduate research positions at UC Irvine and University of Washington, with prior work at Cal Poly Pomona.
