Robin Bencie

Robin Bencie serves as a Lecturer in Botany at Cal Poly Humboldt's Department of Biological Sciences, where he concurrently holds the position of Collections Manager for the Vascular Plant Herbarium. His dual role integrates academic instruction with hands-on curation of regional plant biodiversity specimens.

Bencie completed both his undergraduate and graduate education at Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt), earning a BS and MA in Biology. His academic foundation includes specialized undergraduate work in botany and pollinators, followed by master's research focused on a locally rediscovered legume species.

His research expertise centers on the flora of northwestern California, with particular emphasis on grasses, plant systematics, and ecological relationships. As Herbarium Collections Manager, he maintains critical botanical resources that support field studies and taxonomic research in regional ecosystems. His work bridges classroom education with practical conservation efforts through specimen curation and biodiversity documentation.

Bencie contributes to Cal Poly Humboldt's environmental science mission through teaching and herbarium stewardship, fostering student engagement with native plant communities and ecological field methodologies in the Humboldt region.
