Dr. Henry's research investigates how legal frameworks shaped sexual identities and masculine norms during the settlement of the American West, as demonstrated in her monograph Criminalizing Sex, Defining Sexuality: Sexual Regulation and Masculinity in the American West, 1850-1927. She teaches undergraduate courses in constitutional history and women and gender history, and developed a graduate seminar on Gender and Sexuality in U.S. History that explores evolving societal norms through primary source analysis and interdisciplinary methodologies.
She has contributed to professional organizations through service on the Organization of American History's Committee on the Status of Women (2009-2011) and engages with public audiences as a regular guest speaker for KMUW's Past and Present Series, where she contextualizes historical legal developments for contemporary discussions on gender and sexuality.
