Roberta Croce

Prof. Roberta Croce is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Department of Biophysics Photosynthesis/Energy and the LaserLaB - Energy research group. Her expertise spans biophysics, photosynthesis, and light-harvesting mechanisms in plants and cyanobacteria. She serves as President of the International Society of Photosynthesis Research (2023–present) and Executive Editor of BBA-Bioenergetics (2024–2025).

Her research focuses on energy transfer dynamics, photoprotection mechanisms, and adaptation strategies in photosynthetic organisms. Key interests include far-red light utilization, chlorophyll variants, and optimizing photosynthesis for crop yield enhancement. She has supervised 13 PhD theses and contributes to editorial roles in top journals like The Plant Cell and Science.

Recent articles explore light acclimation in Acaryochloris marina, chlorophyll d’s role in photoprotection, and structural insights into allophycocyanin variants. Her work addresses global challenges in energy and sustainable agriculture, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
