Robert Stern is a Professor of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), affiliated with the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. He serves as the Geosciences Graduate Advisor and has held roles such as Department Head (1997–2005). His research focuses on continental crust evolution, convergent margin volcanism, and sedimentary basins, with fieldwork in regions like the Izu-Bonin-Mariana arc, Arabian-Nubian Shield, and Gulf of Mexico.
Educated at UC San Diego (Ph.D., 1979) and UC Davis (B.Sc., 1974), Stern has a prolific record of academic service, including roles at the Tectonics Observatory (Caltech) and Stanford University.
