Robert N. Stavins is the A.J. Meyer Professor of Energy & Economic Development at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He holds leadership roles as Director of the Harvard Environmental Economics Program and the Harvard Project on Climate Agreements. He is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a University Fellow at Resources for the Future.
Stavins' research spans environmental economics, climate policy, energy economics, and wine economics. His recent work focuses on methane emissions, carbon pricing mechanisms, and international climate agreements.
Notably, he co-authored 'The Relative Merits of Carbon Pricing Instruments: Taxes versus Trading' (2022) and contributed to discussions on methane abatement costs (2025) and Biden-era climate policy (2021).
