Robert Shannon is a Professor of Piano at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he offers private studio lessons and teaches courses such as Senior Honors in Piano Performance, Chamber Music, and Piano Ensemble. He earned a BM and BA from Oberlin Conservatory and College, respectively, and an MA from Juilliard School, studying under notable mentors including Vladimir Ashkenazy and Dorothy Taubman.

Shannon is a globally recognized performer, having appeared in Beijing, London, Hamburg, New York, San Francisco, and Caracas. His recordings on the Bridge label focus on 20th- and 21st-century composers like George Crumb, Carla Bley, and Charles Ives, with critical acclaim for his interpretations of American classical music.
He founded and directs the Cooper International Competition for Piano at Oberlin, collaborating with the Cleveland Orchestra to celebrate young piano talent. Shannon also performs duo recitals with his wife, Haewon Song, a fellow Oberlin piano professor.
