His research spans number theory, combinatorics, and interdisciplinary applications in physics, music, and computational fields. He explores partition theory, modular forms, and analytic number theory while maintaining active interests in mathematical music theory, computational chemistry, and ethnomathematics. Schneider collaborates with Michael G. Maxwell to sponsor the Mathematics and Music Lab (MML), focusing on innovative musical installations and hardware/software development.
A multi-disciplinary artist, he co-founded the Elephant 6 Recording Co., invented non-Pythagorean musical scales, and developed a mind-controlled synthesizer. His Erdős-Bacon-Sabbath number of 6 highlights his unique contributions to mathematics and music.
