Robert S. Chen is a Research Professor and Director of the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) at Columbia University, part of the Earth Institute. He oversees NASA's Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) and holds leadership roles in UN's Sustainable Development Solutions Network and the Group on Earth Observations. His research focuses on data stewardship, disaster risk assessment, sustainability metrics, and climate vulnerability. He earned his Ph.D. in Geography from the University of North Carolina and holds MIT degrees in B.S. and M.S.
