Robert Poage is Professor of Biology and Co-Director of the RISE program at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. His neurophysiology research examines presynaptic mechanisms governing neurotransmitter release.
Research specialties include:
- Calcium signaling in presynaptic terminals
- Modulation of transmitter release kinetics
- Neuromuscular junction pathophysiology
- Synaptic plasticity mechanisms
Experimental models include frog neuromuscular junctions and chick ciliary ganglia. Recent collaborative NSF-funded work (2020) analyzes structure-function relationships controlling calcium entry and vesicle release at synapses.
