Robert Liddiard is Professor of History at the School of History and Art History, University of East Anglia. He is a member of the Landscape History and Medieval History research groups, focusing on the intersection of historical and archaeological approaches to landscapes. His academic profile emphasizes interdisciplinary research, with affiliations spanning medieval history, archaeology, and conservation studies.
Research interests include the history and archaeology of high-status landscapes (secular and ecclesiastical), vernacular landscapes, deer parks, medieval hunting practices, and tenurial geography. His work often integrates GIS technology, zooarchaeology, and material culture analysis to explore medieval military revolutions (e.g., warhorses) and long-term ecological relationships like fallow deer conservation. Recent research outputs demonstrate expertise in zooarchaeology (fallow deer, horses), landscape evolution, and material culture. His publications span peer-reviewed journal articles in Science Advances and PNAS, edited books, and chapters in specialized volumes. Awards include the East Anglian Book Awards 2019 for his contributions to historical literature.
