Robert L. White is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma. His research focuses on developing novel analytical methods and instrumentation, particularly hyphenated techniques such as GC/MS and FTIR, to study materials and environmental chemistry problems. He holds a B.S. from Purdue University (1978), a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska (1982), and completed a postdoc at the University of California-Riverside (1982).
His research interests include structure-specific hyphenated analysis methods, fast gas chromatography, variable temperature infrared spectroscopy, and applications in polymer characterization, catalysis, and forensic analysis. His lab emphasizes improving analytical tools, such as custom-built fast GC ovens and variable-temperature infrared setups, to enhance resolution and quantitative capabilities.
Recent work involves thermal analysis of materials using temperature-perturbation infrared spectroscopy and studies of polymer degradation mechanisms. His publications highlight advancements in instrumentation design, spectral preprocessing, and applications in environmental and material sciences. Collaborations span university departments, industries, and government labs, fostering interdisciplinary problem-solving.
Students in his group gain expertise in spectroscopy, chromatography, thermal analysis, and data analysis, preparing them for careers in academia, industry, or government research.
